Why do I start to write this new blog ?
I wanted to participate to a new challenge for 2011. It’s WordPress’s challenge Postaday2011 / Postaweek2011.
I’ve decided I wanted to blog more, specially in English because I’m French and i don’t have much opportunities to write in this language. So I’m starting right now. My challenge will be to post once a week on this blog for all of 2011 and then if everything is going great, I will try to post more often. But for now, just let’s start slowly.
I know it won’t be easy, but it might be fun, inspiring and wonderful. Therefore I’m promising to make use of The DailyPost, and the community of other bloggers with similar goals, to help me along the way, including asking for help when I need it and encouraging others when I can.
I really hope you’ll encourage me with comments and likes, and good will along the way.

Hi Thoughts.
That’s a laudable goal to improve your English by blogging every day. I envy you. Being Canadian I’ve tried to learn French and would be happy to speak any second language. I just can’t seem to get the hang of it.
I don’t know if I’ve included any new words or expressions in there for you but I will be glad to help if I can. I very highly recommend two sites to help you reach your goal. They have helped me in English and to speak to people in other languages.
For English, try http://www.m-w.com. This is the best, online, English dictionary I have found. It even lets you click on an icon by each word to hear how it is pronounced.
For translation try http://www.mezzofanti.org. This is a fascinating site that groups and rates all of the other translation sites and more. I have successfully used it to turn English into French that was good enough that some of the French Canadian people I was writing to thought I sounded like a native speaker. And it let me understand their notes by translating from French to English for me.
For someone really trying, like you, a translation tool may not be wise. I don’t know. For me, it was the only way I could communicate some times. And even then, I would have to first put my thoughts down in very simple English – translate them on one site – then translate them back on another to see how close it came back. With a bit of work most simple things worked well.
Good luck. Your English is already better than many people I speak to every day here in Canada. You should be writing like a native in no time if you keep this up.
– Papa Joe
Thank you Papa Joe for all your advice and the new word that I’ve learn today ! 🙂 I didn’t know laudable and I used your online dictionary to know the meanings ! I knew Dictionary.com and use it quite often when I’m chating with my friends, I will use both now ! Plus I used this very good French – English Larousse’s dictionary on my Iphone too !! So wonderful to could carry with me a such good helpful application !
I will try the translator to see how good is it ! Sometime I might have need it when I’m not really sure about the meaning of some expressions… Still very useful !
I’ve been studying English since I’m teenage girl now but even then I’m still learning new expressions, new words… That’s what I like about English, I have this feeling this language is always moving, evolving in so many ways.
Maybe the next step I need for being really fluent, would be to move to an England’s spoken country. London would be easiest for me even if there is lot of French people there ! 🙂
Great blog. COngrats on doing it all in English too. !!
Thank you 🙂 This challenge is really fun and interesting to me. I’m trying to learn new vocabulary to write in my post everytime. 🙂
